Seattle Parks and Recreation Department renovated South Park, transforming the space into a community asset for residents, nearby schools, and youth sports leagues.
The City replaced aging infrastructure and renovated the spray park, play areas, and loop trail. The City also added a multi-sport, synthetic turf field. Supporting improvements include general landscaping, power upgrades, and enhanced lighting.
These improvements significantly expanded outdoor recreation access for South Park residents, a historically underserved community with limited access to high-quality park facilities. The new field will increase year-round field availability, reduce weather-related closures, and support consistent programming for youth sports, schools, and informal community recreation.
In addition to the Land and Water Conservation Fund Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership grant, Seattle used a $350,000 Youth Athletics Facilities grant for the improvements.
